Fitness, style and healthy foods help welcome spring

PHILADELPHIA (March 13, 2017) –  Spring Training at Dilworth Park returns on Tuesday, April 4, offering a variety of free outdoor activities Tuesdays through Thursdays, April 4 through May 25. Top-notch trainers will lead free outdoor classes to help you get in shape while experts from Rothman Institute will offer tips on stretching and injury prevention. For the first time, Spring Training includes Center City retailers featuring special discounts on new fitness wear looks for the season. Dilworthpark.org/springtraining will be the place to go to for weekly updates on fitness tips, discounts from local shops, and class schedules.

Spring Training at Dilworth Park is presented by Rothman Institute, with program partners Optimal Sport Health Clubs and City Fit Girls.

On Tuesdays at noon, take a moment to breathe, relax and quiet your mind while building up muscle strength and balance with yoga. Bring your own mat and get your pose on by City Hall. Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m., challenge your routine with the high-intensity approach of a boot camp class.

On Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m., Silver Sneakers makes fitness fun for boomers and beyond with exercises designed to increase muscle strength and range of movement for seniors. At 6:30 p.m., the City Fit Girls Running Club, an all-levels running and fitness community for women, meets near the information center. On Thursdays at 6:00 p.m., get your body going with Zumba, an all-out, super calorie-burning dance party set to Latin and pop music. All fitness classes are led by experienced trainers from Optimal Sport Health Clubs.

As part of Spring Training, celebrate World Tai Chi/QiGong Day on April 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Master Jingshan Tang and his students from the Oriental Fitness Institute will lead free workshops and demonstrations in several Tai Chi and QiGong styles.  Master Tang has been teaching Tai Chi and QiGong in the Philadelphia area for more than 30 years. Since 1999, World Tai Chi/QiGong Day events have been held every year in more than 100 cities in more than 80 nations.

New this year for Spring Training, Center City’s active-wear and sports-gear stores are getting in on the action. The hottest new spring fitness looks and gear will be popping up at Spring Training at Dilworth Park. The Spring Training Retail Guide is an online collection showcasing local retailers’ specials and promotions for fitness-related purchases. Participating retailers include Under Armour, Athleta, New Balance, and Philadelphia Runner. Check the website each week for new fitness tips from trainers from Optimal Sport Health Clubs, and for updates on new promotions in local shops.

Plus, all season long, you can fuel up with healthy offerings from the Dilworth Park Café. Rehydrate with a refreshing fruited agua fresco. Grab a fresh salad or healthy snack to refuel after your sweat session, for lunch or dinner. The café is open this spring from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
