Expanded Wintergarden Attractions Include America’s Garden Capital Maze
PHILADELPHIA (October 24, 2016) – The Rothman Institute Ice Rink will reopen on the north side of Dilworth Park for a third season on Friday, November 11, Veterans Day, with a salute to veterans, accompanied by the return of the popular Rothman Institute Cabin, with a new menu by Brûlée Catering at the Dilworth Park Air Grille. Rink, cabin and grille will remain open for business until Sunday, February 26, 2017. They will be complemented on the south side of the park by the new Dilworth Park Wintergarden, featuring America’s Garden Capital Maze, and the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market. The Winter Season at Dilworth Park is presented by Rothman Institute, William Penn Foundation and through generous support from Subaru, Capital One, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Temple University and 6abc.
On Opening Day at the Rothman Institute Ice Rink, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Noon featuring a Salute to Veterans that includes a presentation of colors and the unfurling of a large American flag across the ice, veterans and active military with ID can skate free. Visitors to the Rothman Institute Cabin can buy a Sam Adams beer for soldiers past and present with the Sam Adams Pour One Forward program, and everyone is asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Liberty USO Thanksgiving Basket Drive.

Admission to the Rothman Rink will be $3 for children 10 and under, $5 for adults, and skate rental will be $10. Hours will be Noon to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; Noon to 11:00 p.m. on Friday; 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday; and Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Learn to Skate lessons are available at the Rothman Institute Ice Rink. Five-week sessions are $99 and include lessons, admission and skate rental. The Rothman Rink is accessible for everyone again this season. The Rothman Institute Cabin offers an artfully crafted menu with offerings from Air Grille by Brûlée Catering, including items to purchase and share such as Poutine and Chili. Adults 21 and over can enjoy a glass of wine, a specialty cocktail featuring Jim Beam Apple or Effen Blood Orange Vodka, or a Sam Adams craft beer starting at 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, and 11:00 a.m. on weekends.
Also opening on Friday, November 11, is America’s Garden Capital Maze, on the Albert M. Greenfield Lawn, as the Center City District (CCD) partners with Greater Philadelphia Gardens to celebrate the region’s horticultural heritage, made possible by a generous $300,000 grant from the William Penn Foundation to the Center City District Foundation (CCDF).
America’s Garden Capital Maze, designed by Groundswell Design Group, for both children and adults, features willow-branch archways, evergreens, trees, perennials, shrubs, and topiary sculptures from 32 area gardens as part of a Maze with colorful winter plantings adorned with twinkling mini-lights.
On November 19, Dilworth Park will reprise the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market, featuring approximately 35 local artisans, designers, crafters and confectionaries offering unique selections for gifts and special holiday foods in white, festively lit tents topped with original Herrnhut stars. The Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market will remain open seven days a week through Christmas Eve.

Tuesday nights are College Nights at the Rothman Institute Ice Rink, from November 15 through February 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. College students pay $2 for admission (skate rental not included) for an evening of fun with friends.
If you enjoyed summer’s Center City District Sips, you’ll love Cocktails and Cold Ones. Every Wednesday night from November 16 through February 22, 2017, you’ll want to stop by the Rothman Institute Cabin for Cocktails and Cold Ones with $5 Jim Beam Apple and Effen Blood Orange Vodka cocktails, $4 wine, and $3 Sam Adams drafts, along with specially priced food items from the Dilworth Park Air Grille, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.!
On Sundays, from November 13 through February 26, from Noon to 2:00 p.m., The Philadelphia Orchestra Presents Symphony Sundays, so you can enjoy music recorded by The Philadelphia Orchestra while you skate at the Rothman Institute Ice Rink. Through a partnership with SEPTA, the Santa Express will arrive in Dilworth Park on Friday, November 25, and Santa will join the skaters on the ice at the Rothman Institute Ice Rink. SEPTA will decorate its trains and offer everyone a jolly, holiday ride to the Wintergarden at Dilworth Park. The celebration hits Dilworth Park at 10:30 a.m. and the fun will continue until Noon.
