PHILADELPHIA (September 28, 2026) Center City District (CCD) today debuted the Center City Coffee Trail, an interactive map highlighting more than 70 local and national coffee shops and cafés in the heart of Philadelphia. The Coffee Trail invites downtown workers, residents and visitors to discover and support Center City’s diverse coffee culture while exploring the more than two dozen parks and plazas found in Philadelphia’s walkable, mixed-use downtown.
The online map includes a list of all the coffee shops and cafés within CCD’s boundaries, along with a curated guide highlighting the local businesses and some of their specialty beverages. The digital resource will be updated throughout the year to include new shops and seasonal specialties. An additional hand-drawn illustrated print version of this map will also be available from CCD’s “team in teal” community service representatives who patrol Center City and provide directions and information to pedestrians.
At any location within CCD’s boundaries, pedestrians are within a five-minute walk of a café or coffee shop, and 54% of all coffee shops within that footprint are independent, regional or national brands founded in Philadelphia. Data from CCD’s economic development team also finds that over the past two years, more than 20 new coffee shops have opened or have announced plans to open in Center City. These consist of a mix of homegrown brands like Madis Coffee Roasters and Vibrant Coffee Roasters, the arrival of national franchises like Moka & Co. and MOTW Coffee & Pastries and expansions from national grab-and-go chains like Dunkin’ and Starbucks. Additionally, Philadelphia has been a launchpad for emerging coffee brands, as La Colombe and Saxbys got their start here and expanded nationally, while the city’s roasting culture continues to grow in Center City and beyond through local favorites like Elixr, Rival Bros. and Nook.
“Every day, workers, residents and visitors have the opportunity to explore the variety, choice, and distinct character that exists in cafés across Center City,” said CCD President & CEO Prema Katari Gupta. “Our robust yet under-appreciated coffee culture creates something not possible elsewhere: a singular place where people can caffeinate, connect and explore hundreds of shops and restaurants, all within a walkable distance.”
