FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Center City District Announces Renewed Partnerships for 2019-2020 Holiday Season

PHILADELPHIA (July 23, 2019) – Center City District (CCD) is pleased to announce that for the 2019-2020 holiday season at Dilworth Park we’ve renewed our partnerships with Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and with Independence Blue Cross and 6abc.

In 2014, with Dilworth Park construction not yet completed, Rothman Institute pledged their support for the park’s first five winter seasons. In recognition of the fifth anniversary of Dilworth Park this year, Rothman Orthopaedic Institute has renewed their commitment as the title sponsor of the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink and Rothman Orthopaedics Cabin through October 2024.

“The Rothman Rink and Rothman Cabin have become part of the fabric of the holidays in Philadelphia,” said Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, President of Rothman Orthopaedics. “Continuing this relationship with the Center City District and further extending Dr. Rothman’s legacy here in Philadelphia were incredibly important to us.”

During the 2018-2019 season, 61,500 skaters enjoyed the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink and the Rothman Orthopaedics Cabin welcomed more than 100,000 guests as a pop-up restaurant featuring a variety of holiday activities and events along with a hearty seasonal food and drink menu. The winter season at Dilworth Park will begin on November 8, 2019.

Additionally, Independence Blue Cross and 6abc have renewed their support for the third season of the Deck the Hall Light Show presented by Independence Blue Cross, which runs from November 18, 2019 to January 1, 2020.

In 2018, its second season at Dilworth Park, the free holiday show attracted 1,685,000 visitors during its six-week run. Designed by the local Klip Collective, the light show is projected multiple times throughout the evening hours onto the west façade of City Hall and synchronized with traditional holiday music.

“We are excited to help bring the holiday magic of the Deck the Hall Light Show to residents and visitors for the third consecutive year,” Independence Blue Cross President and CEO Daniel J. Hilferty said. “As a company committed to the health and well-being of our community for 80 years, we again look forward to celebrating the warmth and spirit of the season at Dilworth Park.”

CCD made the announcement as part of a “Christmas in July” event at Dilworth Park on Tuesday afternoon to thank its supporters, complete with a summer-clad Santa Claus, Buddy the Elf and an ice queen, as well as ice sculptures and falling snow to set the mood.

“We are grateful for the continued commitment from our corporate partners, whose generous support helps ensure that these festive holiday traditions will continue to delight tens of thousands of Dilworth Park visitors in the years ahead,” CCD President and CEO Paul R. Levy said.

The picturesque Wintergarden presented by TD Bank and the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market’s local artisans also will return for the 2019-2020 season.

Each year since Dilworth Park opened in 2014, CCD has added amenities, landscaping and programming as the number of annual visitors has increased – from 8,697,000 in 2015 to 10,878,000 in 2018.

In addition to providing cleaning, safety and landscape maintenance on Dilworth Park every day of the year, CCD creates a diverse calendar of events and programming year-round. Once an unwelcoming plaza at the foot of City Hall, Dilworth Park is now a popular meeting place and first-class transit gateway visited by 30,000 people each day, rising to more than 60,000 per day in the holiday season.
