Arts on Center Stage: Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra

Philadelphia’s diverse arts and cultural organizations perform shows ranging from orchestral music and ballet ensembles to jazz instrumentals and more. Attendance is free. Seating on the Greenfield Lawn is limited and guests are encouraged to bring their own blanket or chair.

This summer at Dilworth Plaza, SMC Quintet joins CCD for a program that pushes string music far beyond the expected. 
 
Made up of musicians from the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, SMC Quintet is built on the idea that strings can do more than sound beautiful — they can groove, drive, surprise, and connect. The program features original music by Ajibola Rivers alongside covers of Chappell Roan, Dolly Parton, Rush, Lil Nas X, The Cure, Toto, The Police, and Smashing Pumpkins. 
 
With pop melodies, deep grooves, and modern arrangements, SMC brings the energy of a band into the sound world of a string quintet — all with the same spirit of community connection that drives Black Pearl’s work across Philadelphia.
