Center City District's annual report examines how downtown Philadelphia’s social and economic systems have evolved amid the profound challenges of the past four years.

On Friday, June 25, 2021, CPDC hosted a virtual membership meeting to review monthly transit, parking and pedestrian trends. Transportation leaders discussed how SEPTA is preparing for the return of office workers and the City is looking to balance the competing uses on Center City streets and avoid a return of traffic congestion.

This report from the CPTMA, CPDC and CCD is part of a continuing conversation about how better to manage traffic congestion in Center City. It builds upon the March 2018 Keep Philadelphia Moving report.

This report is meant to start the conversation about traffic congestion, focusing on why it occurs, how it is (or isn’t) currently being managed, and what Philadelphia can do differently to improve conditions.

With the installation of 14 cameras that measure pedestrian volumes 24 hours a day, the CCD now provides retailers, brokers, and developers with detailed counts and analyses of hourly trends.

Philadelphia’s dense, compact downtown and relatively flat topography are excellent for bicycle commuting. A survey and report by CCD shows the cycling numbers have reached a plateau.
