When is Open Streets: West Walnut?
 Four consecutive Sundays in September, beginning September 8-September 29. The event will begin at 10 a.m. through 5 p.m., but street closures will go into effect by 8 a.m. and open back up by 6 p.m. 

What is the route for Open Streets: West Walnut? 
Walnut Street will be closed to vehicular traffic on the 1500, 1600, 1700 and 1800 blocks. The cross streets will remain open at select intersections (16th Street, 17th Street, 19th Street and the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Sansom Street.) 18th Street will be closed from Locust to Sansom and Sansom to Chestnut streets. 

Is there a fee to attend? 
No, these events are free to attend.  

Are there rain dates? 
These events are rain or shine. Center City District reserves the right to cancel at any time in the event of severe weather. Guests should reference social media and the website for up-to-date information regarding weather. 

Are these events open to all ages?
All ages are invited and welcome to enjoy Open Streets: West Walnut. Along the 1800 block of Walnut Street, a family-friendly zone will be designated each week. 

Will there be parking? 
 Parking will not be provided; however nearby parking garages will be open and available.  

Will restrooms be available?  
Public restrooms will not be available. 

Are bicycles allowed? 
Center City District requests all cyclists to walk their bikes in the boundaries of the event. 

Is smoking allowed? 
Center City District requests no smoking or vaping while in the boundaries of the event.

Are these events wheelchair accessible?
Yes, this event is wheelchair accessible. 
 
Will food and drinks be sold on the street?
No. There will not be supplemental food or beverage vendors on the street. Open containers of alcohol will not be sold and are strictly prohibited. All food and beverage sales will take place at restaurants located within the boundaries of the event.  

Will there be entertainment? 
Yes, ambient entertainment will be provided weekly. 

How is this different than a street festival? 
Open Streets: West Walnut is an extension of public space for pedestrians. Unlike a street festival, there will be no supplemental food, beverage or merchandise vendors on the street. Guests are encouraged to support the businesses located along the route and surrounding neighborhoods. There will be no main performance stages.

How will this impact drivers in Center City?
Drivers may be temporarily rerouted because of the street closures on Walnut and 18th streets. Any businesses along the route that would like to participate can contact Giavana Suraci at shop@centercityphila.org to learn more.

Are there plans to continue this series?
At this time, Open Streets: West Walnut is only scheduled for September 8, September 15, September 22 and September 29, 2024.

How can my business get involved?
Businesses must be located along the designated route to have a presence during Open Streets: West Walnut. 

Can I participate as a performer?
Performers for Open Streets have already been secured. For future inquiries, interested applicants should email parkevents@centercityphila.org

What SEPTA buses will be rerouted? 
The #9, #12, #21 and #42 will have a westbound detour, South on 15th > West on Spruce > North on 20th > reconnect on Walnut
