At the start of 2020, before the pandemic upended daily life and shook every aspect of the city’s economy, Philadelphia was in its 11th straight year of growth. Now, as vaccination rates rise and vitality is steadily returning to the downtown and neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia, the CCD and CPDC are releasing a pair of reports which look at the past year’s challenges and track multiple indicators of recovery.

The Center City District dedicated the newest addition to the Sister Cities Park World Fountain, recognizing Frankfurt am Main, Germany, as Philadelphia’s newest Sister City.

CCD is supporting Center City’s recovery through deployment of additional sidewalk ambassadors, bike patrols and homeless outreach teams in partnership with public and private security.

The Center City District (CCD) marked its 25th anniversary of providing services to make Center City clean, safe and attractive with a special thank you luncheon for all its employees and paid special tribute to 11 individuals who have worked with the CCD since its founding in March 1991.

CCD, with support from Rittenhouse Row and the City of Philadelphia, plans to transform one of Philadelphia’s most popular shopping and dining destinations, 18th Street from Locust to Chestnut and Walnut Street from 15th to 19th, by temporarily closing streets to vehicular traffic.
