Nearly two years after Philadelphia offices were ordered to close as the first COVID-19 cases were detected, and more than a year after vaccinations got underway, Center City and University City companies are continuing to adapt and remain flexible, while strongly valuing the importance of in-office work and a downtown presence, according to a CCD survey. CCD distributed a survey to employers to gauge their current stance on in-office and remote work, their plans for the first quarter of 2022, and factors they were weighing in making workplace decisions.

The return to shopping and dining will be slow and gradual, influenced by how well and consistently businesses address public concerns about public health and safety, as well as the City of Philadelphia’s flexibility in encouraging the expanded use of public space to accommodate seating and waiting lines, according to results of a new CCD survey of Philadelphia residents.

Philadelphia’s largest employment center and fastest growing residential section is showing unprecedented signs of growth and new investment, according to the newly released State of Center City, 2016, produced by the Center City District (CCD) and Central Philadelphia Development Corporation (CPDC).

The steady, incremental lifting of pandemic-related restrictions has enabled retail, restaurant and service businesses gradually to reopen, drawing an increasing number of pedestrians back to Center City’s sidewalks and helping to restore thousands of jobs.
