From sidewalk cafés and well-managed parks to seasonal pop-up gardens and reclaimed office plazas, outdoor seating in Center City continues to expand and now numbers 428 locations with 6,743 seats from Vine Street to South Street, river to river, according to a new report from the Center City District/Central Philadelphia Development Corporation.
Center City Philadelphia holds 43% of all jobs citywide with a workforce from every neighborhood in the city, with more than 100,000 being employed in the office district. This spring and summer, Center City District (CCD) will celebrate and support Center City in-office employees by hosting free, outdoor events on West Market and JFK Boulevard.

The Center City District (CCD) marked its 25th anniversary of providing services to make Center City clean, safe and attractive with a special thank you luncheon for all its employees and paid special tribute to 11 individuals who have worked with the CCD since its founding in March 1991.
This new CCD/CPDC report documents that in September 2022 overall pedestrian volumes reached 75% of pre-pandemic levels compared to September 2019, with residents, shoppers and visitors at significantly higher levels. These findings are from both CCD’s pedestrian counters at multiple locations downtown and from anonymized cell phone data.
All of Dilworth Park’s popular winter attractions are returning in November. The Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink will again offer skating seven days per week, the Greenfield Lawn will host reindeer topiaries in the Wintergarden and the west facade of historic City Hall will once again be illuminated by the Deck the Hall Light Show presented by Independence Blue Cross with support from 6abc. The Rothman Orthopaedics Cabin and the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market will round out the park’s seasonal transformation.
This spring and summer, Sister Cities Park at 18th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be offering a variety of exciting events, from BYOB summer barbeques with live music in the evenings to children’s art, science and nature programs.
