Center City's retail occupancy rates, pedestrian volumes, retail sales and jobs are continuing to rise and are approaching levels last seen in 2019, according to Center City Retail Report, November 2023.
With pedestrian volumes on Center City sidewalks last month reaching the highest point since March 2020, the CCD is expanding its existing clean and safe programs by launching an additional uniformed, unarmed bicycle safety patrol within the District during afternoon and evening hours. Winter traditions continue safely at Dilworth Park with the addition of Deck the Hall Holiday Lights! The newly redesigned illumination will feature festive projections on the west façade of City Hall. This unique experience will premiere on Monday, November 23 and will run through January 1, 2021.
A new, temporary art display, Color Under the Canopy, debuts at Sister Cities Park following a two-day installation. The project was designed and executed by local artist Janell Wysock. Using a loom to knit fabric, she created colorful, eye-catching wraps to decorate some of the park’s most precious assets: its trees.
A new CCD/CPDC report, Center City Pedestrian Counts, November 2022, documents that pedestrian volumes in October 2022 in the commercial core reached 77% of the October 2019 level, showing steady growth throughout 2022. The rate of increase has been greatest in the commercial office district and the successful return of major conventions is clearly visible in the volume recorded by CCD sensors at 12th and Market Street.
