On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, CPDC hosted a virtual membership meeting to review the annual report State of Center City 2021 and the most recent recovery report, Monitoring Philadelphia’s Economic Recovery, May 2021. Industry leaders discussed what is needed for continued recovery and getting office workers, visitors and tourists to return to offices, reanimate hotels and restore jobs in Center City Philadelphia.
CCD is starting repairs at the southern end of Dilworth Park to the glass head house that provides public access to SEPTA’s subways and trolleys. New custom-made glass was fabricated to replace several damaged panels, which are made of multiple layers of laminated structural safety glass.
Fall will soon sweep into Dilworth Park with the arrival of Octoberfest, the annual five-day festival taking place from Wednesday, October 17 to Sunday, October 21.
Center City District (CCD) will continue to provide safe, accessible programming to Philadelphia residents, workers and visitors this summer with a full lineup of activities in both Dilworth Park and Sister Cities Park.
Center City District offers ice skating, outdoor dining and cold weather fun through February 2022! Beginning this November, visitors of all ages can enjoy a dramatic seasonal transformation as fountains are replaced by the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink and reindeer topiaries take up winter residence on the Greenfield Lawn. In addition, a full lineup of free entertainment is planned, including the Deck the Hall Light Show, the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market and Rothman Orthopaedics Cabin.
Hay bales and cornstalks and pumpkins, oh my! Beginning Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 13, Dilworth Park’s annual fall festival, Octoberfest, will return for a three-day celebration of all things autumn.
Spring Training Returns to Dilworth Park on April 4, offering a variety of free outdoor fitness activities Tuesdays through Thursdays, until May 25.

In October, CPDC surveyed its members and Board members of the CCD to determine what percent of their employees were currently working in the office downtown, the expected timetable for the majority to return, the most important factors that needed to be addressed to facilitate a return to the office, and the biggest advantages of a safe return.
