At the midpoint of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway between City Hall and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Sister Cities Park adds a picturesque swath of green to the heart of Philadelphia’s notable arts and cultural district. From here, panoramic views bring skyscrapers, historic cathedrals and museums into harmony. Like the international flags on display along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Sister Cities Park celebrates Philadelphia’s commitment to strengthening global economic ties and cultural understanding.
Bring young visitors to explore nature in an urban setting in the Children’s Discovery Garden. Inspired by Pennsylvania’s Wissahickon Valley, the garden features a curving path, scalable schist boulders, native plants, and a meandering stream for outdoor adventures and imaginative play. Nearby, sit, relax and enjoy the picturesque views at Sister Cities Plaza. Here, embedded in bluestone, Sister Cities fountain is a unique representation of the world with Philadelphia at its center. Jets of water playfully leap from 11 sprouts globally positioned in relation to each Sister City’s distance from Philadelphia.
Philadelphia’s first two Sister Cities were Florence, Italy and Tel Aviv, Israel and now include: Torun, Poland; Tianjin, China; Incheon, Korea; Douala, Cameroon; Nizhny Novgorod, Russia; Kobe, Japan; Aix-en-Provence, Franc; Abruzzo, Italy; and Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
