FREE WEEKLY ACTIVITIES at CCD PARKS for DNC WEEK

WHERE: Dilworth Park and Sister Cities Park
WHAT: Center City District’s Sister Cities and Dilworth Parks are open to the public and celebrating the DNC’s arrival in Philadelphia. This week, in advance of the Democratic National Convention, Dilworth Park continues hosting four free night-time movies for Political MOVIEFEST. The movies were chosen from a slate of 12 candidates, voted on by the public! Also, check out the daily free activities at Dilworth Park during DNC week, and the regularly scheduled free activities at Sister Cities Park.

POLITICAL MOVIEFEST at Dilworth Park is a series of four free films with political themes that kicked off Wednesday, July 20, with the showing of Selma, and will continue to be shown on the Greenfield Lawn at dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.) Free. The schedule for the remainder of the Political MOVIEFEST is:
Thursday, July 21: The Manchurian Candidate, PG13, 1962, 126 minutes;
Friday, July 22: The American President, PG13, 1995, 114 minutes; and
Saturday, July 23: All the President’s Men, PG, 1976, 138 minutes.

Dilworth Park is participating in the Broad Street Arts Activation Project, with live entertainment featuring local, Philadelphia-based artists dancing, singing, acting and performing at the PNC Terrace at Dilworth Park. Free. Performances will include:

A special, All-American Happy Hour for local office workers and visitors at the PNC Terrace at Dilworth Park, Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., featuring red, white and blue décor, an artist’s mural, voting ballot activities, a DJ, and a special appearance from Bud Light brand ambassadors.
Wednesday, July 27
The Day of Play Extravaganza, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, sponsored by the City of Philadelphia and showcasing Philadelphia’s playful side by giving delegates, their families, local families, and visitors an opportunity to participate in a one-day, unique, outdoor event. Center City District Sips at Dilworth Park presented by 2 Gingers – An extended All-American themed Sips this Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., offering $3 beers, $4 wines, and $5 cocktails featuring 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey to sip on the large outdoor PNC Terrace adjacent to the café with special appearance by Bud Light ambassadors. This week features a DJ.

Story Art – Every Monday, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., join Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and the Free Library of Philadelphia for a nature-inspired story and craft. A new nature theme – frogs, flowers, fish and more – is featured each week as kids discover the fun of being read to outdoors and creating their own make-and-take nature craft. Free.
Art in the Park – Philadelphia Museum of Art educators are on hand every Monday, 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., to show how to be inspired by the different works from the museum's renowned collection. Art projects change weekly. Free.

Children & Nature: Grow Up Green – Outdoor play inspires a greater connection with the outdoor world. Each week on Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., a different activity is introduced by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation staff. Children, ages 3 and over, are encouraged to attend. Free.

Pairings on the Parkway – Continuing every Thursday, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., through September 15 at Sister Cities Park, 18th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, this free BYOB event features singer-songwriter-style live music, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The park’s Logan Square Café is offering a special summer grilling menu and the Children’s Discovery Garden, featuring the boat pond, is open late. This week features Pat Mcgee and Sangre Luna (PATMCGEE.NET).

Dilworth Park, on the west side of City Hall, a large, sustainable green park with many amenities, programming, and improved access to transit, is the center stage for all of Philadelphia. The park links the Avenue of the Arts with the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and connects the office district with Market East destinations.
