Fountain, Lawn and Foliage Slated to Return this April

PHILADELPHIA (February 13, 2020): The Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink at Dilworth Park will close for the winter season on Sunday, February 23 along with the Rothman Orthopaedics Cabin. Breakdown of these attractions will begin on Monday, February 24.

Spring transition efforts have already begun with 15,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs planted throughout the park. Weather depending, visitors can expect to see a burst of color sometime mid-to-late March. The Wintergarden will be dismantled at the end of the day on March 22 and the Albert M. Greenfield Lawn will undergo a seasonal sodding beginning April 6. Expect the area to be roped off during this time so that the new turf can get established. The lawn, planter pots and foliage should begin to green up and bloom throughout April. In the meantime, the Center City District will reuse approximately 85% of the plants from the Wintergarden in their Parks and Planter program.

Dilworth Park’s dancing fountain will reopen on Wednesday, April 6, bringing with it the return of Janet Echelman’s Pulse. This immersive public art display brings whimsy and wonder to the space with clouds of colored steam designed to mimic Septa’s underground transit routes.

The Air Grille is also slated to return on April 6. An extension of the Dilworth Park Café, this old-school Airstream offers lunch and dinner options like cheesesteaks, burgers, salads and more. Beer, wine and cocktails will be available during select events throughout the year.

The spring installment of Center City Fit presented by Rothman Orthopaedics will start on Monday, April 20 with Zumba® and Tuesday, April 21 with Boot Camp. These classes are free for participants of all skill levels.

Dilworth Park is located at 1 S. 15th St., on the west side of City Hall. Events are weather permitting and subject to change. For the most up-to-date schedules and information, visit: DilworthPark.org.
