In Center City’s Midtown Village, Michael Schulson’s Double Knot is part coffee shop, part Izakaya. During the day, enjoy Elixir coffee and morning pastries on the cozy and sophisticated main level with distressed leather chairs and bookcases brimming with worldly antiques. In the afternoon, Double Knot offers make-your-own Vietnamese street food inspired lunches of rice, banh mi, noodles and salad. For dinner, Double Knot transforms into a Japanese gastropub serving sushi, dumplings, baos, and robata in the dimly lit and moody downstairs. With seating for 90, the dramatic subterranean lair complete with exposed brick and flickering candles is complemented by the correspondingly creative cocktails and extensive selection of sake.
