Center City continued to show promising signs of recovery throughout the summer months, buoyed by returning conventions and office workers and increasing numbers of pedestrians who are contributing to rising retail and restaurant sales, local tax revenue, new business openings and increases in convention travel and hotel occupancy.
Upon the arrival of warmer weather each year, CCD gets to work transforming Dilworth Park from a winter wonderland to a warm-weather oasis enjoyed by thousands of residents, city workers, families, and tourists.
Center City's retail occupancy rates, pedestrian volumes, retail sales and jobs are rising and approaching levels last seen in 2019, according to Center City Retail Update: July 2023, a new report released by the Center City District/Central Philadelphia Development Corporation.
The Center City District is very saddened to announce that William P. Hughes, Sr., Vice President of Public Safety and Cleaning Operations, died on February 1, after a long illness.

CCD, with support from Rittenhouse Row and the City of Philadelphia, plans to transform one of Philadelphia’s most popular shopping and dining destinations, 18th Street from Locust to Chestnut and Walnut Street from 15th to 19th, by temporarily closing streets to vehicular traffic.
Conditions prior to the current crisis. Philadelphia will rebound; underlying fundamentals remain strong. When recovery comes, we have strengths to build on, challenges to address.
