Rothman Institute Rink Season Opens with Salute to Veterans

Celebrate the season kickoff at Rothman Institute Ice Rink and honor America’s veterans with an opening ceremony dedicated to those who have served. The ceremony will feature red, white and blue pop, along with the presentation of the colors by Boy Scout Troop & Cub Pack #176, and 2nd Lt. Faith Brodkorb of Joint Base McGuire-Dix, Lakehurst, N.J. singing “God Bless America.” Philadelphia Symmetry Junior Team, will be performing a World War II era inspired skating routine to music from South Pacific. The Philly POPS will perform patriotic music as part of its Salute Series. Salute performances recognize the service and sacrifice of those dedicated to a collective identity of American values and tradition. The USO will also be on-site for food drive collections. Guests are encouraged to bring canned goods to help support the food drive.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will feature special remarks from speakers including Paul R. Levy, President and CEO of Center City District, William Parshall, Executive Director of Temple University Center City and Ambler campuses, Alex Vaccaro, MD, PhD, President of The Rothman Institute, and Karen Rogers from 6ABC. After the ceremony, cheerleaders and Hooter the Owl from Temple University will lead the first skaters of the season onto the ice. After the ceremony, Rothman Rink will offer free skating to veterans and active military members until 11 p.m.

Dilworth Park comes to life this day, as it also celebrates the opening of America’s Garden Capital Maze, a holiday-inspired garden created in partnership with Greater Philadelphia Gardens and supported by Temple University Ambler. Located on the Albert M. Greenfield Lawn, children and adults will delight in discovering picture-perfect moments amid holiday topiaries, twinkling lights, and seasonal plants that showcase more than 30 public gardens, arboreta, and historic landscapes located within 30 miles of Philadelphia, giving Philadelphia the distinction of America's Garden Capital.

After some fun outside, The Rothman Institute Cabin and Air Grille, provides a cozy reprieve from the cold with rustic decor and family-friendly fun. Savor food specials from Brûlée Catering, while guests 21 and older can enjoy cold beer, including Stella Artois and Victory Brewing Company Ales on tap. Warm up at the fire pits with hot cocoa and seasonal cocktails featuring Effen Vodka, Hornitos Tequila and DeKuyper Cordials.
