FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Outdoor roller rink, events and more coming this spring!

PHILADELPHIA (February 27, 2024) ‒ The Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink and Cabin are now closed in Dilworth Park as Center City District (CCD) landscaping and parks staff prepare for the arrival of spring. Seasonal updates include the return of park fountains, flowers and foliage as well as the Rothman Orthopedics Roller Rink.

The Wintergarden at Dilworth Park remains open through March 17, and has been refreshed to reflect the change of seasons. Its massive overheard arbor has been adorned in colorful ribbons, chandeliers and mirror balls, while fresh bulbs are popping up among the existing plantings and greenery. Beginning March 1, parkgoers can “make a wish” and tie a ribbon to the base of the arbor. CCD’s Community Service Representatives (CSRs) will provide free ribbon for those who request one, as will employees of the Starbucks Coffee kiosk across from the Wintergarden.

The wishing ribbon will also be distributed during Family Saturdays, a fun-for-all-ages event series beginning Saturday, March 2 and continuing every week through March 16 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Programs include:

  • March 2: Bubble Magic with George the Magician
  • March 9: Magic Show with Jake Strong
  • March 16: Mlanjeni Magical Theater

After the Wintergarden closes for the season on March 17, the Albert M. Greenfield Lawn will be refurbished and remain closed through May 3. Plants from the Wintergarden will be recycled and reused across CCD parks and in sidewalk planters throughout Center City.

The fountains at Dilworth Park, Sister Cities Park and John F. Collins Park will be turned on by Friday, March 29, and the pond at Sister Cities Park will reopen on Friday, April 26 following the closure of the Imagination Playground on Tuesday, April 21. Also in April, 41,000 tulip bulbs planted last December in CCD-managed parks will begin to bloom and will flourish through the beginning of May.

On Friday, April 19, the Rothman Orthopaedics Roller Rink will open for the season in Dilworth Park. Details will be announced soon, including the design for this year’s overhead art installation.

Dilworth Park’s Air Grille Garden will also reopen on April 19 with a full menu of roller rink-inspired snacks. At the bar, cocktails made with Haku® Vodka and Tres Generaciones® Tequila will be available for adults 21 and older.

The Sister Cities Café will reopen on Friday, March 29.

All CCD-managed parks are available for private rentals, including small gatherings, parties and weddings. For bookings, contact rentals@centercityphila.org

A full calendar of spring programming at Dilworth Park, Sister Cities Park and Cret Park will be announced soon.
