Center City Buildings to Glow Like Jack-O-Lanterns for Halloween

(October 28, 2011) The Center City District (CCD) will join in the fun of ghosts, goblins and witches with Halloween-themed lighting of a dozen historic buildings along the Avenue of the Arts. These facades are beautifully lit all year long with the colors of the season, but on Monday, October 31, the lights will reflect haunting hues.

The CCD will be joined by a grand pumpkin adorning the Cira Centre on the banks of the Schuylkill. Nearby, One Liberty Place and Two Liberty Place, and to the south, 777 South Broad and Symphony House, will provide a treat of orange, as will the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, high above the Delaware River. To top it all off, PECO’s Crown Lights will be sending out a spooky animated message.

“Autumn is one of the most enjoyable seasons in Center City and Halloween is always fun for those who live, visit and work downtown,” said Paul R. Levy, president and CEO of the Center City District. “The lights add a festive mood and the walkability of downtown makes it easy to participate in the activities.”

Many of the participating buildings use color-changing LED lighting, due to its energy efficiency, long life, its effectiveness in highlighting distinctive architectural details and its ability to provide programmable light shows for holidays and citywide celebrations at a much lower cost.

Participating building managers/property owners include: American Real Estate Partners; Brandywine Realty Trust; Cushman & Wakefield of Pennsylvania, Inc.; Delaware River Port Authority; Dranoff Properties; PECO; and the Center City District.
