Center City District Announces New Partner for Sips

Philadelphia, PA (May 18, 2014)—Center City District and 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey, inspired by and named for the founder’s red-headed mother and aunt, have partnered for this year’s Center City District Sips to present the much anticipated summertime tradition in Philadelphia.

With the harshness of winter finally over and summer right around the corner, Philadelphians are anxious to raise a glass to warmer weather. Summertime means Center City District Sips for thousands of Philadelphians from downtown businesses and office workers to students, commuters and anyone who enjoys al fresco tables, bar windows wide open, refreshing drinks on hot summer days and toasting the happiest of hours.

On every Wednesday evening from June 3 through September 2, more than 80 official participating bars and restaurants will offer a special happy hour 5:00 to 7:00pm. All participating bars will offer $5 cocktails featuring 2 Gingers, $4 wine, $3 beer and half-priced appetizers during Sips.

Founded by Kiernan Folliard, 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey is proud to be the 2015 sponsor of Center City District Sips. 2 GINGERS Irish Whiskey offers a differentiated approach to whiskey, using its trademarked signature cocktail, the BIG GINGER, to target and convert traditional nonwhiskey drinking into the brand and category.

Born in 1955 in Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, in the West of Ireland, Folliard started out in the hospitality industry carrying bags for passengers in his father’s hackney (taxi cab) business. After 17 years in corporate marketing, including time in Ireland, Saudi Arabia and the U.S., he realized that he loved being in pubs. So, like any self-respecting Irish guy, Folliard decided to open one.

Eighteen years later, his pub business had grown to include The Local, The Liffey, Cooper and Kieran’s Irish Pub, all in Minnesota’s Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul). In March of 2011, Kieran launched 2 GINGERS® Irish Whiskey as a test in each pub and quickly earned a loyal following.

Center City District Sips will be available every Wednesday at bars such as BRÜ Craft & Wurst, 1925 Cocktail Lounge, Gran Caffe L'Aquila, Marathon Grill, Opa and Drury Beer Garden, Pennsylvania 6, Rosa Blanca Café at Dilworth Park, Smith’s Restaurant and Bar, and more (please see full list of participants below).

The bustling energy of Sips doesn’t stop at 7:00pm either; for sippers who want to stay for a bite, participating restaurants will offer 15% off dinner after the happy hour special. With the abundant options of amazing bars and restaurants in Center City Philadelphia, Sips is a great way for Philadelphians to get out each week and try new drinks, new dishes, and new places. For more information about Sips, please follow @CCDSips on Twitter, and visit centercityphila.org/life/Sips.php.

The official Center City District Sips Kick Off Party will take place one week before the start of Sips, on Wednesday May 27, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., at Marathon Grill Patio Bar at 1818 Market Street. Featuring live entertainment and giveaways from the “2 Gingers Lassies”.

About 2 Gingers:
2 GINGERS® Irish Whiskey was created by Irishman Kieran Folliard, who was inspired by his redheaded (“ginger”) mother, Mary, and aunt, Delia, to follow his passion and make a go of a good idea. 2 GINGERS® Irish Whiskey is a product of this notion. Although this blended whiskey is made in Ireland, it was launched and sold exclusively in Minnesota before expanding nationally. Distributed in Philadelphia by Southern Wine and Spirits, a partner of Center City Sips. For more information, visit 2gingerswhiskey.com
