Spring Training Tips: Does That Fitbit Even Matter??

The majority of people that use fitness trackers want to lose weight and get in shape. Too often though, we put our hopes in these little wrist devices to get us to our goals. We fall short because in reality the expectation is mismatched. People are quick to offload their own accountability in a fitness tracker that can only do so much, when deep down it's much more than how many steps you took today.

Here’s an analogy. Does having an accountant make you rich? No.

Having an accountant assists in the management of your finances, and they can help position you to be financially successful.  But, you still have to go make that dollar bill.  That’s what fitness trackers are - accountants.

So, did you get all your steps in today? If the answer is yes – fantastic! What does that mean now? Have you ever asked that? You did everything the fitness tracker told you to do, but did you do everything else you’re supposed to do such as sleep well, eat well, and do other forms of exercise besides "steps"?

Now don’t go throwing out your brand new fitness tracker you got for Christmas, and definitely don’t stop stepping. Context is key. Having an accountant on your wrist can be a very useful tool, but just remember: it’s just ONE spoke on the wheel of health and fitness. You still have to go out there and make it happen with diet, sleep, stress management and appropriate exercise.
